The exact formula Google uses to rank their web pages isn't known. But we do know some things website owners can do in order to improve their Google rank. In fact, three keys to a great Google ranking are to update your page often, use social bookmarking, and create links to your web page.
Update Often
One key to a great Google ranking is to make sure you update the information on your site regularly. Google doesn't like sites that are old and aren't updated. They see these as sites that might be out-dated or at the very least are kept-up. So, to give their users the best information possible, Google figures in how often a site is updated. So make sure you spend at least a few minutes, a couple times a week, updating your site.
Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarking helps your Google rank in a variety of ways. It gives your site publicity (more users), creates another link to your site, and helps in smaller ways too. The most popular bookmarking sites are Digg.com and StumbleUpon.com. Of these two, Digg is probably the best one. However, StumbleUpon is the easiest to use. All you need to do is add it to your toolbar and then every time you add a new page to your site, just click on "I Like It" in the toolbar and that will be added to StumbleUpon.
Back Links
Back links are just links that lead back to your site. The more back links you have going to your site the higher the site will rank with Google (and the other search engines too). There are many ways to create back links. You can write articles and post them on one of the articles sites like EzineArticles.com. You can create pages on social networking sites and put back links on that site. You can blog and include links. You can use forums and place links on them.
